Will I need building control approval for electrical work
Project type
Most electrical work in your home must satisfy the requirements of Approved Document P of the building regulations. This states that anyone carrying out electrical installation work must make sure it's designed and installed to protect people from fire and electric shocks.
If your work is covered by Part P you must either:
- Make a building regulations application to local authority building control, or
- Make sure that it's carried out by an electrician who is a registered member of a Government-approved Competent Person scheme
N.B. A completion certificate can't be issued until a Competent Persons certificate has been provided to your Local Authority for any notifiable work.
You can also find information about electrical work specific to your particular project elsewhere on this website.
