If you’re going to be building something new, making a major change to your property, or changing its use you’ll most likely need to apply for planning permission unless the work comes under permitted development.

We recommend contacting your local planning authority as early as possible in the planning stages to discuss the job with them.

Apply for planning permission at least eight weeks in advance of when the work is to start but bear in mind if it’s a complicated project it could take longer for the authority to make a decision. And also bear in time that it will take time to get the plans together.
