NFRC is the Government-licenced Competent Person Scheme that allows professional roofing contractors to self-certify that their roof refurbishment work complies with building regulations within England and Wales. The scheme encompasses all roofing types for domestic, industrial and commercial properties and is open to all roofing contractors. The NFRC scheme is for roofing refurbishment for over 50% of the roof. The scheme does not apply to repairs or new work.
NFRC members are regularly inspected and updated on building regulations to keep them compliant. They also have a 'hot-line' number which allows them to report non-compliance by property owners or other companies. Domestic property owners receive a 10 year insurance-backed guarantee which includes breach of building regulations and contractor insolvency as part of the compliance certificate, supplied on completion of work.
